*captain here* Hindus were never actually restricted from eating beef. Unlike the Quran and the Bible, which puts restrictions on eating, the Bhagvad Gita never talks about these things. At one point it was decided that given the large population of Hindus in the Indian subcontinent, eating beef could have various consequences such as scarcity of milk and other ecological reasons. *flies away*

Hinduism says to not eat beef. But the followers are free to do as they please. Hinduism consists of elaborate teachings that include even atheism. The followers are not confined to anything and there is a lot of freedom. Unlike some other religions that don't allow people to touch dogs or eat pork.
